2-1 JUMP STREET
Four nobodies infiltrate the league's upper crust. Two prom royalty types turn out to be running a con. Everybody else gets a locker shove. This is Glory Days FFL, and class is in session.
Captain Dickson slams the case file on the desk so hard the coffee jumps. "You're going back to the standings," he barks. "Four teams. Records that don't scream 'danger.' Nobody's gonna see you coming." Jenko looks at Schmidt. Schmidt looks at the file. Somebody wrote 2-1 on all four folders in red marker, and nobody in this league thought to ask why the quietest kids in the hallway are also the ones holding all the receipts.
THE UNDERCOVER UNIT
Four teams rolled into this semester looking like background extras — no gaudy zeroes in the loss column, no spotlight, just 2-1 written in plain Comic Sans. That was the point. Nobody suspects the kid with a B+.
- 2 Yards Under — Sits #1 in the league's actual power rankings despite looking like a totally normal 2-1 team, which is exactly the kind of thing an undercover cop would want you to think. Bijan Robinson's been running the whole operation out of the backfield like a guy who definitely knows where the bodies are (74.2 pts through three weeks), and the one "L" on the record came via a legitimately filed robbery report — a bad_loss to BourbonBandits in Week 2, 103.38-109.06. This unit doesn't lose. It gets jumped in the parking lot.
- I am so SMRT, D'OH — Opened the semester 0-1, lost to Corn Shoughers 97.36-122.46, and everyone wrote them off as the kid who eats alone. Then they strapped a league-season-high 151.38 to the chest of Even Bauce Can Beat WV in Week 3 and walked away like nothing happened. That's not a comeback. That's an undercover op that went sideways into a full-blown sting.
- Foosball is the Devil — Leads the entire league in total points (413.26) and still can't shake the "just 2-1" cover story, mostly because Jaxon Smith-Njigba is quietly assembling a Week 1-3 stat line (99.6 pts) that reads like a confession nobody can translate. Their one loss? A bad_loss to 2 Yards Under in Week 3, 130.7-144.48 — which means two members of this undercover unit have already busted each other. Rookie mistake. Very "Jenko shoots Schmidt in the arm during the sting."
- BourbonBandits — The wild card. Started 0-1, got made fun of in the group chat, then turned around and mugged 2 Yards Under in broad daylight (109.06-103.38) before out-ugly-winning Bush League the following week. Kenneth Walker's been the muscle (79.7 pts), Jalen Hurts the getaway driver. If this were the movie, BourbonBandits is the guy who seems like comic relief until the third act, when it turns out he had the gun the whole time.
Four teams, one brief: embed as a normal 2-1, blend in with the JV squads, report back. Nobody in the league bothered to ask why the "average" teams keep accounting for most of the Week 3 Hardware column.
THE POPULAR KIDS (ONE OF THEM IS A FRAUD)
Every high school movie needs the kids at the top of the social ladder, and this league has two 3-0 teams strutting around the cafeteria like they own the building. Here's the twist: only one of them actually did the homework.
- Corn Shoughers — The real deal. Josh Allen's been playing valedictorian (102.4 pts through three weeks, tops in the league), Amon-Ra St. Brown's right behind him, and the 3-0 record isn't a con — it's earned. This is the popular kid who's also somehow in AP Everything. Insufferable. Deserved.
- American Idol — Here's the sting. 3-0, strutting down the hallway, letterman jacket zipped up — and dead last in the entire league in points scored (276.84). Won Week 1 on a lucky_win, won Week 3 on another lucky_win, and has yet to actually outplay anybody. This is the fake ID. This is the 25-year-old enrolling as a sophomore. Jenko and Schmidt made this exact bust in the first ten minutes of the movie — the varsity quarterback who's secretly a 19-year-old deadbeat. Sooner or later, the schedule's gonna check American Idol's ID, and the whole thing falls apart in the parking lot.
THE KIDS WHO KEEP GETTING SHOVED IN LOCKERS
Every undercover-cop-at-a-high-school story needs victims, and this league has two teams currently being stuffed into the same locker on a weekly basis.
- Even Bauce Can Beat WV — 0-3 despite Jahmyr Gibbs personally dropping 94.3 points on the league through three weeks, which is the statistical equivalent of acing the final and still failing the class because the teacher lost the Scantron. Both losses so far have been flagged bad_loss. The universe isn't just failing this team, it's actively keying their car in the parking lot.
- Bush League — Also 0-3, league-worst in points allowed (411.66), and the proud owner of Week 3's Bench Blunder trophy for sitting Drake London (26.9 pts) in favor of Ladd McConkey (8.6 pts) — which is the fantasy equivalent of the undercover cop forgetting his own fake name mid-interrogation. Ashton Jeanty's doing his best (51.8 pts) but he can't cover for the front office's incompetence forever.
HALLWAY EXTRAS, BRIEFLY ACKNOWLEDGED
Yes, there are four more teams. No, the movie doesn't forget about you, it just doesn't give you a backstory. Kardiac Kids (1-2) and Hands Holzberger (1-2) are the kids standing by the gym doing nothing memorable. Stinky Bastards (1-2) won last week and still ranked dead last in power rankings, which is its own special kind of tragic. And titysprinkles2 (1-2) is quietly sitting on Derrick Henry going for 75.4 points through three weeks and somehow still under .500 — the kid with a locker full of straight A's who nobody at this school has ever spoken to.
REST-OF-SEMESTER PREDICTIONS (SUBJECT TO A TWIST, BECAUSE THERE'S ALWAYS A TWIST)
- Corn Shoughers — Stay legit all the way to Week 14. You'll hate them for it. Josh Allen doesn't do slumps, he does "slightly fewer touchdowns," which around here still wins the week.
- Foosball is the Devil — The actual best team in the league by midseason, and everyone finally admits it once Jaxon Smith-Njigba stops being a conspiracy theory and starts being a top-5 redraft name in group chat arguments.
- 2 Yards Under — Keeps winning the "quiet but deadly" game right up until the one week Bijan Robinson gets a maintenance day, and suddenly the whole op nearly collapses on a Thursday night. Survives. Probably by one lucky kicker point. Thank Ka'imi Fairbairn.
- I am so SMRT, D'OH — Keeps the momentum, backs into a top-4 seed, and spends the entire fantasy playoffs looking like the one team nobody wanted to draw in the bracket.
- BourbonBandits — The wild card stays wild. Somebody in this league drops an ugly double-digit loss to them in Week 9 and has to explain it to the group chat for the rest of the year.
- American Idol — The fake ID gets confiscated. Somewhere around Week 7, the schedule finally hands them an opponent who can actually score points, and the 3-0 glow evaporates in a single Sunday. Book 'em.
- Kardiac Kids — Lives up to the name by losing three straight games by a single garbage-time field goal, and somebody's blood pressure does not survive October.
- Hands Holzberger — The most "fine" team in the league stays exactly, precisely fine, all the way to a 7-7 finish that gets them nowhere and offends no one.
- Stinky Bastards — Christian McCaffrey has a say in this, eventually, and when he does, this team sneaks into playoff position looking like it was never actually that bad. Nobody will remember being wrong about them.
- titysprinkles2 — Derrick Henry single-handedly drags this roster to respectability out of sheer spite, finishes 7-7, misses the playoffs by a tiebreaker, and everyone agrees that's extremely on brand.
- Bush League — Does not bench Drake London again. Still finds a new and inventive way to lose. The streak hits five before it mercifully ends against Even Bauce.
- Even Bauce Can Beat WV — The 0-3 curse breaks in Week 4 against the only team cursed harder than them: Bush League. Everyone agrees this was the only possible outcome.
FINAL EXAM: THE PLAYOFFS
Six seeds. One bracket. All the sincerity of a high school guidance counselor who's seen this movie before.
- Corn Shoughers walk in as the 1-seed, still insufferably legit, still doing the homework nobody asked them to do.
- Foosball is the Devil gets the 2-seed and a chip on their shoulder about every "just 2-1" headline written about them all season (including this one).
- 2 Yards Under, I am so SMRT D'OH, and BourbonBandits round out the top five — the entire undercover unit makes it to graduation together, which never happens in these movies, but stick with it.
- The 6-seed goes to whichever of Stinky Bastards or titysprinkles2 finally stops almost-making-it, and gets in by the thinnest tiebreaker the league's ever seen.
And then, the twist nobody sees coming — because there's always one: Corn Shoughers, the one team that did everything right all season, gets jumped in the semifinal by Foosball is the Devil, who's been undercover as "just a 2-1 team" for so long that even we forgot how dangerous Jaxon Smith-Njigba actually is. The championship comes down to Foosball is the Devil versus 2 Yards Under — the two most dangerous "ordinary" teams in the building, finally made to fight each other, like the department planned it that way from the start.
Champion: Foosball is the Devil. The cover gets blown in the best possible way — by winning the whole thing and everyone finally admitting they were never actually undercover. They were just better than all of us and too polite to say so.
Case closed. Badges stay in the glovebox until next season. The Glory Days Gazette would like to clarify that no actual high schools, cops, or 21-year-olds posing as sophomores were involved in the making of this power ranking.
Coming up next: the weekly awards column — a lighter, funnier look at the week's best and worst. Expected Wednesday morning.
