Week 1 Splits the League in Half — Monday Night Holds the Rest Hostage
Two games are already in the books while four more dangle from the fingertips of Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice, and a Denver defense nobody drafted for excitement.
Sunday did what Sunday does — handed out two tidy verdicts and left the rest of the league sweating out Monday night like it's a jury deliberation. Two matchups are final, four are still very much alive, and Travis Kelce currently holds more power over this league's Week 1 storyline than the commissioner does.
2 Yards Under opened the season by putting a beatdown on Bush League, 153.14–123.5, and that 29.6-point margin stands as the blowout of the week among decided games. Not a murder in Week 3-2023 terms, but a very confident way to kick off a title defense of... nothing yet, since it's only Week 1. Baby steps.
Meanwhile Corn Shoughers narrowly survived I am so SMRT, D'OH, 122.46–97.36 — a 25.1-point margin that only sounds close because everything else this week is a landslide. Congrats to Corn Shoughers on the win; condolences to I am so SMRT, D'OH on the name-becoming-prophecy situation.
Monday Night: Four Games, Zero Certainty
Grab a drink, because tonight's Monday Night Football slate is holding four separate matchups hostage, and none of them are safe to call yet.
- American Idol (80.16) vs. Kardiac Kids (76.8) — a razor-thin gap that lives or dies on Travis Kelce's final line. If Kelce does Kelce things, American Idol cruises. If he no-shows, Kardiac Kids sneaks out with the win and the most fitting team name of the week.
- Even Bauce Can Beat WV (129.72) vs. Hands Holzberger (124.46) — a 5-point cushion that isn't nearly big enough with Rashee Rice and the entire Denver Broncos defense still on the clock. Hands Holzberger needs a defensive touchdown or a Rice no-show to flip this one.
- Foosball is the Devil (127.76) vs. BourbonBandits (72.42) — a gap so wide it barely qualifies as suspense, but Kenneth Walker and Jaylen Waddle are still out there for Foosball is the Devil, meaning this laugher could get even louder before the clock hits zero.
- titysprinkles2 (132.2) vs. Stinky Bastards (68.66) — Harrison Butker is the last man standing between Stinky Bastards and a truly ugly Week 1 loss. A few made field goals won't close a gap like this, but stranger things have happened in Week 1.
Standings-wise, 2 Yards Under and Corn Shoughers are the only teams with a win banked so far — everyone else sits at 0-0, waiting on Monday night to settle the rest of the board. Check back tomorrow when four more results are finally locked in and somebody's Week 1 optimism gets crushed under Harrison Butker's cleats.
All scores reflect totals as of Monday morning, before Monday Night Football kickoff. Live matchups will be finalized once tonight's games conclude.
Coming up next: the weekly awards column — a lighter, funnier look at the week's best and worst. Expected Wednesday morning.
